# Burlington neighbourhoods and reverse mortgages

A reverse mortgage follows the same rules in every Burlington neighbourhood. What changes from one part of the city to the next is the home itself: how old it is, what type it is and what it is worth. Those decide how much a lender will advance.

## Along the lake and downtown

The southern part of the city, between the QEW and Lake Ontario, with downtown, the lakefront parks and Joseph Brant Hospital. Three of its neighbourhoods, Roseland, Indian Point and Shoreacres, have their own neighbourhood-character rules in the City's Official Plan.

Downtown

Brant Street, City Hall and Spencer Smith Park on the water. A mix of older houses and condo buildings. Condo owners qualify for a reverse mortgage too; each lender also reviews the building.

Maple

Along Maple Avenue, within walking distance of downtown, Spencer Smith Park and Beachway Park, with Joseph Brant Hospital on Lakeshore Road nearby.

Roseland and Indian Point

Lakeside neighbourhoods with their own neighbourhood-character rules in the City's Official Plan.

Shoreacres

East of Walkers Line and south of New Street, near Paletta Lakefront Park, with large lots and mature trees.

Elizabeth Gardens

In the southeast toward Oakville, east of Appleby Line and close to the lake.

## Aldershot and the north-central streets

Aldershot is the part of the city closest to Hamilton and the Escarpment, with the Royal Botanical Gardens on its edge and the Aldershot GO station on the Lakeshore West line. Tyandaga and Brant Hills sit north of the QEW in the middle of the city.

Aldershot

A former village at the west end, between the Escarpment and Burlington Bay. The Aldershot GO station is one of three station areas where the City plans more homes over time.

Tyandaga

Around the Tyandaga golf course, north of the QEW.

Brant Hills

Curving family streets near Brant Street and Upper Middle Road, north of the downtown core.

## North of the QEW, up to the 407

The suburbs between the QEW and the 407. Across the whole city, about half of all homes in Burlington are detached houses, and almost one in five are row houses (Statistics Canada, 2021 Census).

Palmer

Central Burlington between Upper Middle Road and the QEW.

Headon Forest

Between Walkers Line and Guelph Line, with a trail along the hydro corridor.

Millcroft

Around the Millcroft golf course, with detached houses, townhouses and bungalows, just north of the Tansley Woods community centre.

Orchard

In the east end near Bronte Creek Provincial Park and the Oakville boundary.

Alton Village

North of Dundas Street between Walkers Line and Appleby Line, near the 407.
